Ivan Pinkava

*1961 , Náchod
The Czech photographer and teacher Ivan Pinkava is currently one of the most prominent figures not only in Czech but also in European photography. Thanks to his unmistakable style, he has succeeded in creating a distinctive aesthetic that draws on traditions ranging from minimalist tendencies to a kind of photographic New Objectivity. Rather than narrative series, he focuses on creating a unique atmosphere. This is achieved through the sensitive staging of empty spaces and anonymous corners of studios. Against such a backdrop, he composes figurative and material assemblages in which surprising and unexpected layers of form and content are interwoven in an innovative way to create poetic images of a different life of things.
